AmGov Mini-BIPAP: Home

Introduction

For this assignment, you will choose an area of interest and seek out sources about that topic. Having familiarized yourself with the sources, you will craft a research question that guides your writing; you will also write a thesis statement that articulates an argument.  You will use evidence from your chosen sources to support that thesis statement and answer your research question.

We will use most class periods to work on the project, using the following schedule:

  • Week of Nov. 27 - Dec. 1: Introduce project & select topics. Students must select a topic and have your research question approved by Mr. Sahr before you start your paper.
  • Week of Dec. 4-8: This week is set aside for having your research question set and then using class time to state your thesis and research/write. Mr. Sahr will gladly help you when/if you need him. He will show you how to cite your sources in the paper and he will also assist you in finding credible sources.

Remember - Your thesis must answer your research question

  • Week of Dec. 11-15: Continue working on your BIPAP by writing a rough draft, editing, and writing a final draft. The paper is due on or before December 15

Tips for Successful Searching

  • Use specific search terms -- think before you type anything in the search box!
  • Put phrases that you want to stick together as a single idea in quotes.
  • Keep track of search term combinations you've tried.
  • Evaluate sources for reliability & bias.
